What is an ISC helper?
-----------------------
A helper is a volunteer who enjoys helping people understand how to use the ISC , and who enjoys helping people with ISC problems. Helpers read the questions sent with the 'ask' command and answer them either in channel 0 or in personal tells.
Who can become an ISC helper?
------------------------------
To become an ISC helper, you must meet these 4 requirements.
(1) be a member of ISC for 6 months
(2) have a clean record of good behavior.
(3) have a strong knowledge of ISC help files and policies.
(4) be a contributory member.
If you meet all 4 requirements, and want to be a helper, please send a message to carol. Then you will need to pass a test.
The helper system and helper commands
--------------------------------------
Helpers and admins are the only people allowed to go into channel 100 , which is the channel.
When an ISC member sends an 'ask' command it's labeled with a number between 0 and 49 and sent to all helpers and admins online.
For example, this might appear on your screen:
Grisen asked: [49] How do i resign?
A helper can type 'reserve 49' which will reserve the question for him/her to answer. The helper can then answer the question with the 'relay' command: 'relay just type resign'.
The question will be automatically removed from the list and sent to channel 0 right above the answer:
(0)Carol(H) - Grisen asked: How do i resign?
(0)Carol(H) - Click [Action] button and select [Resign] or just type 'resign'. See resign
Helpers can use the command 'unrelayed' , which lists the questions that have not been answered.
You can do 'norelay 20' if question 20 is something that shouldn't be relayed to channel 0. Then question 20 is taken off the list.
A question can also be answered privately , using an ordinary tell , rather than being relayed and answered publicly in channel 0. If you answer to a question using tell you must take off the question from the list using 'norelay' command.
Guidelines to helpers
----------------------
Don't relay something that is not of general interest, that you can answer using a private tell.
If your answer makes a reference to a button or to a option from the menu you should put them between [..]. For example, [Action] button. If you make a reference to a command you should put it between ' .. '. For example, 'resign'.
If there is a help file you should end your answer with a reference to that file. For example, see resign .
Only admins and helpers can send tells in channel 0 , but send tells directly only if you want to make corrections at an answer sent with relay.
