PROVISIONAL

• A player has a provisional rating if he has not played 11 rated games in a rating category.

• If you have an established rating and you play a provisional player, your rating doesn't change very much. This is why you sometimes only gain a few points for winning a game even against a higher rated player.

• Games where both players have a provisional rating are not rated.

• A provisional player can play only 2 rated games against the same opponent.

• The rating formula for a provisional player is based on the average rating of the opponents. Sometimes you can lose points after winning a game if your opponent's rating is below average.

• To see how many games someone has played use 'finger' command. To avoid playing a provisional players set your formula.
